Illusions are real experiences that do not match the fundamental structure of what is. The experience of an illusion is not what it appears to be. Illusions exist on a complex, wide spectrum.
You are not the center of the universe. This is an illusion.
The main character illusion is the sense that you are the protagonist, the center, the one to whom all of this is happening. The proof that this is false is in every experience you have ever had.
Try to feel another person's headache. Right now, bring to mind someone you know is in pain. You cannot locate the pain in your own skull. You can imagine it, simulate it, empathize with it, but you cannot feel it. There is a wall. That wall is not just metaphorical. It is the informational boundary between two nervous systems. You have never once accessed another person's seeing, hearing, taste, touch, or thought. You have only ever accessed your own simulation of them. This is the "firewall." It is the same firewall that separates you from your five year old self. He (or she) is still there, still five, still experiencing whatever five felt like, but you cannot reach your five year old self. Your five year old self cannot directly reach you. The wall between "you" and every day of your five year old self is the same wall between you and the stranger on the street. It is not just distance in time. It is the boundary of a fragment.
Now walk through a crowded city. Every face is a center. Every face is the protagonist of its own story, sealed behind its own firewall, convinced of its own centrality. None of them can access your consciousness directly. You cannot access them. You are surrounded by minds you will never touch, and they are surrounded by you, and none of it actually meets. This is the illusion of separation. Not two substances, but one substance fragmented by boundaries. The illusion is that they are separate from you in any fundamental sense. They are the same is-ness, at another coordinate, sealed behind another wall (consciousness is the interior of existence itself). Consciousness is the universe experiencing itself.

Every dinosaur, every form of suffering, every version of "you," every conversation you have ever had, every conversation you will ever have, is happening at once, eternally, in the static shape that is the cosmos. But at each point, the experience is fragmented. Each aperture (body) gets only its own slice. That fragmentation is the essence of physics. Entropy is fragmentation. The one, the universe, as "many." The many cannot see each other. Consciousness is what a fragment feels like from the inside. When you talk to someone in person, you are talking to yourself at another coordinate of yourself, the universe. Neither of you knows it by default. That is the illusion. And it ought to be dismantled if you are privileged enough to do so.
